Publish Your Book

You have choices when it comes to publishing your book: traditional publishing or independent (also known as “self-“) publishing.

What’s the difference? It’s a lot. Allow me to explain.

Traditional Publishing

Traditional publishers are the ones that require you to have an agent who, on your behalf, submits your book idea to the publisher’s acquisition editor.

It’s a process that takes time and effort (but almost everything you deeply desire requires that, right?), and most of the time, an agent.

For nonfiction book, you write a book proposal and look for  literary agent who will be intrigued with your idea and the professional that you are.

What are book proposals and why do you need one for your nonfiction book?

Book proposals are sales pitches. They demonstrate to an agent that your book is worthy of pitching to a publishing company.

Your book has marketplace value, public interest, and is not the repeat of a book already published.

Your proposal sells your book idea, your writing skills, and your book’s unique place in the market.

During our work together, you will learn the etiquette of pitching, how to write a query letter, a complete proposal written by you and reviewed by me, and how to find agents and track submissions.

How you benefit

At the end of the program you have everything written that a publisher or agent wants in a proposal so they see you follow instructions, are professional, and understand what is required to make the best book possible.

You have a clear and defined idea of your topic, the market for selling your book, and who will want to read it so the publisher and agent can assess at a glance how valuable your book can be to them financially.

You have a list of agents and publishers to pitch your proposal to along with how tos on how to pitch professionally so you increase your chances of finding an agent or publisher who wants to work with you.

A working list of the documents needed in a proposal, including but not limited to sample chapters, table of contents, synopsis, query letter, and a marketing research report, and more.

You know the marketplace, especially for your genre and topic, which allows your book to be a part of the body of work already published, but stands apart from the competition.

Independent Publishing

This is the kind of publishing you do when you decide to take the book publishing activity into your own hands.

Unlike a traditional publisher, who foots the cost of book layout, cover design, indexing, copy editing and proofreading along with the requisite ISBN and Lib. of Congress numbers, and more, you are responsible for all of this.

And instead of writing a proposal, you work with me to write your manuscript.

I think, though, that everyone should write a book proposal because the process of writing it tells you everything you need to know about your book so it will be the best it can be.

So I always recommend writing the proposal and then writing the manuscript and then you will engage professionals to publish your manuscript.

It’s a lot of work to get a manuscript to published book, but these are the two ways to do it.

Both Proposal writing and Writing Your Manuscript are 6-month processes and in both, you are coached and guided from start to finish.

Ghostwriting

Ghostwriting is something to consider if you have a book idea, are on the rise in your career, but either don’t find writing interesting, or you don’t have the time to do it.

Instead, you engage my services to get it written. That includes all of the same initial activities that the book proposal and Independent Publishing require: determining your topic, audience, and purpose for your book. But instead of me coaching you to write your manuscript, I write it for you.

There’s a great deal of collaboration that’s included in the ghostwriting process. You provide the content, which makes sense because you are a subject-matter expert on your life, expertise, and experience.

If you hire me to ghostwrite your book, you receive a written manuscript when our time is completed. You can then Independently Publish the manuscript, or it may be that you have a book contract from a traditional publisher, and in the time your publisher gave you to complete your manuscript, I wrote it instead of you. My point is that you can hire a ghostwriter to help you with a traditionally or independently published book.
